Aussie star continues to shine as Hawks soar to victory

Australia's Dyson Daniels has continued his sparkling NBA form as the Atlanta Hawks scored a 17-point win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Daniels, whose name has been thrown around in All Stars discussions, finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in Atlanta on Wednesday night (Thursday AEDT).

The man affectionately know as the "Great Barrier Thief" also snared three steals.

The Australian's 13-point game made him one of seven Atlanta players to score double figures, led by Zaccharie Risacher with 25 points in a 117-100 win as the Hawks traded four-time All-Star Trae Young to Washington.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 17 points, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kennard added 13 points apiece, and Mouhamed Gueye finished with 10 as the Hawks snapped a two-game skid.

It is understood the Hawks agreed to trade Young, who was listed out for the game because of a quad contusion, to the Wizards for a package including veteran CJ McCollum.

Young, who was on the bench in street clothes, is 10th in points, 12th in points per game, first in assists and first in assists per game since entering the NBA as the No.5 pick in the 2018 draft.

Zion Williamson led the Pelicans with 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting with eight rebounds and six assists in the Pelicans' ninth straight loss.

In Detroit, Isaiah Stewart scored a career-high 31 points to help the short-handed Pistons beat the Chicago Bulls 108-93.

Detroit won for the fourth time in five games despite playing without All-Star Cade Cunningham (wrist) and fellow starters Tobias Harris (hip) and Jalen Duren (ankle).

Ayo Dosunmu had 24 points for Chicago, who are still without injured Australian superstar Josh Giddey and have lost three straight games.

Nikola Vucevic added 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Bulls.

In Tennessee, Dillon Brooks scored 21 points and fellow former Memphis player Grayson Allen added 19 as the Phoenix Suns routed the Grizzlies 117-98.

Brooks, who played his first six seasons with the Grizzlies, scored 18 of his points in the first half. Allen, who also played two seasons with Memphis, was 7-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-10 three-pointers.

Jaren Jackson Jr led the short-handed Grizzlies with 19 points.

In Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 46 points as the Thunder beat the Utah Jazz 129-125 in overtime to snap a two-game losing skid.

Gilgeous-Alexander calmly made a shot from near the free-throw line at the regulation buzzer to force overtime, then scored nine points in the extra period. The reigning MVP increased his streak of games with at least 20 points to 109, the second-longest run in NBA history.

In New York, Karl-Anthony Towns had 20 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high seven assists as the New York Knicks snapped their four-game losing streak with a 123-111 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
