Aurelien Tchouameni has dropped a hint over his immediate future amid transfer links with Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Frenchman has long been linked with a switch to the Premier League following his sparkling performances at the Stade Louis II. Chelsea have been rumoured to be tracking the youngster for some time amid their interest in West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp ’s Liverpool have been noted as admirers in Tchouameni, with the transfer window set to open in only a couple of months’ time. It remains to be seen where the Frenchman’s both immediate and long-term future lies amid the interest in his services but it appears that Tchouameni himself has dropped a considerable hint over what his ambitions are
Having watched Manchester City’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, the midfielder took to Twitter with his thoughts on the game. He wrote: “Frankly what a pleasure to watch a match of this level.”
The post was also accompanied by a sideways eyes emoji, potentially hinting that Tchouameni harbours ambitions of playing in the competition himself. Despite the huge promise that the 22-year-old Frenchman has displayed so far throughout his career, he has only been afforded rare opportunities on the European front.
Having represented both Bordeaux and current employers Monaco in the Europa League, he has only ever made appearances in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The Ligue 1 outfit could still be set to return to Europe’s top table next term though.
What club do you think Aurelien Tchouameni will sign for? Have your say in the comments below.
They currently occupy fourth spot in the French top-flight standings - a position that is only good enough for a Europa League place. However, they are only behind third-placed Nice due to their inferior goal difference and should they manage to move above Les Aiglons, then they will earn a place in the Champions League qualifiers once more.
They may have to do that without Tchouameni though, with the Frenchman having caught the eye for his impressive performances so far this season.I n all, he has made 32 appearances for the club so far this season, his only goal of the season coming against his former club Bordeaux back in October. He has just over two years left to run on his current Monaco contract.
The midfielder has already admitted that he has been left ‘flattered’ by speculation over his future. Speaking to L’Equipe, he said: "I remember I was in Paris, after the Nations League. I woke up and my phone had blown up.
"My father called me, we talked about everything and he told me that I was on the front page of Marca. I went on Twitter and saw for myself.
"I told him it was cool, but what does it actually matter? It doesn't. The front page of Marca will not define me or allow me to perform well in matches. It's not real life, but it is the media world, the football business. They talk about me today but tomorrow, they'll be talking about another.
"In the dressing room, they put the cover up and laughed: 'Oh, you're leaving us already?'. It's flattering, but I don't wake up in the morning thinking about it."
