Audi's Most Affordable EV Gets More Range, Faster Charging And Updated Tech

The Audi Q4 E-Tron is one of the manufacturer's most popular EVs, but it has remained largely unchanged since its introduction in 2021. Now Audi has given this MEB-based EV a significant overhaul, tweaking its interior, adding new features, and increasing its range and charging capability.

It features a new, 10% more efficient motor, pushing the maximum WLTP range of the longest-range single-motor model variant with the SUV body by 19 miles (30 km), to 359 miles (578 km). For the more aerodynamic Sportback model, the range goes up to 368 miles (592 km). All-wheel drive variants also see a range increase, ranging from 9 to 20 miles, depending on the powertrain configuration.

The new motor makes 201 hp in base spec or 282 hp in Performance trim, while the dual-motor Quattro powertrains increase power to 295 hp and 335 hp, respectively. The top Performance variants now also charge 10 kW higher, reaching a peak of 185 kW, while lesser variants still charge at 160 kW and 165 kW.

Charging the large 82 kWh battery pack from 10-80% takes 27 minutes, and charging for 10 minutes adds 112 miles (180 km) of extra range.

Bidirectional charging with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) functions was also added as part of this refresh. The car can supply up to 2.3 kW through a household-type socket in the trunk, allowing you to plug in any appliance without a special adapter.

Audi has updated the Q4 E-Tron’s exterior with new LED headlights featuring a customizable daytime running light pattern, a revised body-colored grille, and a refreshed bumper design. In the back, the taillights have also been refreshed and are now of the ‘second-generation digital OLED’ variety. They also get a choice of four light patterns to match the front.

It now comes with two curved screens (11.9- and 12.8-inch) and the option to add a third 12-inch screen in front of the passenger. The rest of the interior hasn’t changed much, but it does feature one more big change: the pre-facelift model's squared-off steering wheel has been replaced by a more conventional-looking circular wheel.

The updated Q4 E-Tron features the new One Connected infotainment system, built on Android Automotive OS, and includes an AI-powered voice assistant that integrates ChatGPT. An augmented-reality head-up display is also available, projecting navigation prompts and driver assistance information onto the windshield as a 70-inch virtual screen.

There are also more driver assistance features as standard, including parking sensors with distance display, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, attention and fatigue warning, and active front assist with evasion, turn assist, front cross-traffic assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

In Germany, the base Q4 E-Tron with the 63 kWh battery starts at €47,500, rising to €49,450 for the coupe-like Sportback. The larger 82 kWh battery costs an additional €6,000.
