Welcome to our football.london The Arsenal Way daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all.
Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.
Morata on last-minute agenda
AS have reported that Alvaro Morata is on Arsenal's transfer list on the final day of the transfer window. Mikel Arteta is still looking for a striker and the Spanish outlet have said that his assistant Miguel Molina has spoken to Morata.
Arteta sees the player as the ‘missing piece’ at Arsenal as the club sees a number of forwards playing out the final year of their contracts in London.
Morata is of course familiar with the Premier League as he signed for London rivals Chelsea in 2017, but an unsuccessful time in England saw him return to Spain and Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Our take: It would be great to see Arsenal sign a striker as they could be looking to lose several forwards in the summer and getting a replacement in now with the team could only benefit.
Auba on his way out?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is looking like he’s on his way out of Arsenal as rumours about a last-minute move to Barcelona continue. The Athletic’s David Ornstein has tweeted that the forward still needs to iron out details of his salary, “Barcelona nearing agreement with Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang loan until summer.
“Main issue to resolve is salary. Would be a major saving for Arsenal but no loan fee or buy option/obligation. No incoming deals close.”
But Spanish website Sport have reported that the Gabonese international will likely only make the switch if Barca can offload Ousmane Dembele.
But the report also states that Aubameyang has agreed to play for ‘practically nothing’ which could mean the Catalan club can afford the move and keep Dembele if his situation doesn’t resolve itself.
Nketiah offers turned down
Arsenal have turned down two offers by Crystal Palace for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, per Sky Sports. Palace wanted to sign the 22-year-old last month and even saw their efforts to bring him in last summer fail.
That may be the case once again as Arsenal make their stance clear. But Nketiah’s contract finishes at the end of the season and is able to make pre-agreement with foreign clubs.
Sky Sports also state in their report that the forward has a number of offers to consider including one from the Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach.
