Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf condemned on Monday the Iran-backed Houthi militias for attempting to attack the United Arab Emirates with a ballistic missile.

He hailed the constant efficiency of the country's air defenses that managed to intercept and down the rocket.

He accused the militias of systematically and deliberately targeting civilian locations and vital installations in violation of all international laws and norms.

He urged the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to stop these terrorist acts.

The GCC, he stressed, stands by the UAE and supports all measures it takes to defend its territories and protect its citizens and residents.

The US State Department condemned the Houthi attack. Spokesperson Ned Price tweeted: "We condemn the latest Houthi missile attack on Abu Dhabi. While Israel’s president is visiting the UAE to build bridges and promote stability across the region, the Houthis continue to launch attacks that threaten civilians."

Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, said that provoking his country with attacks is "futile".

In a tweet, he stressed: "We are determined to achieve our goals and strategic vision in contributing to building a stable and prosperous region for all."

He added that the threat will be dealt with in a way that "ensures our national security and sovereignty."
