The FBI has confirmed that it is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at his Florida golf club. This incident comes just two months after another attempt on Trump's life at a Pennsylvania rally. Fortunately, Trump was unharmed during the recent incident.
A 58-year-old man named Ryan Wesley Routh, who owns a small construction company in Hawaii, has been detained in connection with the attempted assassination. The incident occurred while Trump was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach with a donor.
Gunshots were heard while Trump was moving between holes five and six, prompting a swift response from the Secret Service. A rifle barrel was spotted sticking out of a fence, leading to agents firing at a man in the bushes along the perimeter. The suspect then fled the scene in a car but was later apprehended by law enforcement.
Law enforcement officials discovered an AK-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks containing ceramic tiles to augment a bulletproof vest, and a GoPro camera at the suspect's position. Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe noted that the setup indicated a high level of pre-planning.
The suspect, Routh, was found unarmed when taken into custody. Investigators are anticipating a mental health assessment for Routh before any potential criminal proceedings. The incident has raised concerns about the security of public figures and the need for enhanced protective measures.
