Hadi Matar, the man who stabbed and partially blinded the novelist Salman Rushdie on stage at a New York arts institute in 2022, is scheduled for sentencing now on 16 May.

Matar, who could receive up to 25 years in prison, had been initially scheduled for sentencing on 23 April – four months after he was found guilty of attempted murder in the second degree – but the court has since adjourned to the May date at the request of the defense.
