World No. 1 Jannik Sinner delighted the hometown fans at the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy by defeating American Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Sinner is 2-0 in the tournament thus far.

Sinner showed his versatility with powerful groundstrokes and disguised drop shots to keep a frustrated Fritz off balance and talking to himself. The Italian who won both hardcourt Grand Slams this year (Australian Open and US Open) and the 6 Kings Slam is the favorite to win the tournament.

Great disguise and totally unexpected.
Unbelievable how much his finesse has improved over the last few seasons.

His biggest competition will likely come from either World No. 2 Alexander Zverev who has played well this fall, or World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, the French Open and Wimbledon champion. Alcaraz is 0-1 with a loss to Casper Ruud. He is dealing with an illness limiting his practice time and his sharp play on the court.

Jannik Sinner Has 67 Wins in 2024
Sinner is on a record pace in 2024. He has 67 wins this season despite not playing at the Paris Olympics or in Rome.
Rafael Nadal recorded 68 wins in 2017. Sinner is on pace to surpass that mark.
A Focused Sinner Shuts Out the Noise
Despite being his best year on the ATP Tour, Jannik Sinner dealt with the failed doping tests and the backlash associated with them. In an interesting twist of irony, as Sinner further distances himself from that situation, his Italian compatriot Matteo Berrettini recently hired Umberto Ferrara for 2025. Ferrara was Sinner’s fitness coach fired by the World No. 1 after the doping tests. Ferrara is believed to be “responsible for the contamination” of Sinner that prompted the failed drug tests.

In addition, his relationship with Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya is always making headlines. Everyone has immense interest in Jannik Sinner, but he continues to put his head down, train, and play great tennis. Provided he stays healthy, he will be a force to reckon with in Grand Slams for years.
