Manchester City and Atletico Madrid players were involved in a massive touchline rammy towards the end of their Champions League semi-final second leg.
City were looking to see the game out after 89 arduous minutes as they withstood wave after wave of Atleti attack carrying a 1-0 lead from their win at the Etihad.
A place in the final four awaited the winner with Real Madrid the opponent.
In truth it was a heated affair with the tone set early on when England star Phil Foden required a head bandage after a heavy challenge from Felipe.
And it was the Brazilian who kicked things off with a tackle on the same player in the 89th minute.
Foden appeared hurt but rolled back onto the field of play to the ire of former Man City man Stefan Savic.
And then all hell broke loose at the sidelines of the Wanda Metropolitano with technical staff, substitutes and pretty much every one of the 22 on the park involved.
Felipe was shown his second yellow card as part of the incident before Savic was booked for trying to shove Foden back off the park while broadcasting crews highlighted a headbutt and even a pull on Jack Grealish's hair.
After full time there was also a fracas inside the tunnel with BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher revealing on air: "The players were leaving the tunnel, Jack Grealish was walking down the tunnel and Stefan Savic caught up with him.
"All of a sudden there was a commotion right at the mouth of the tunnel and that point a lot of other people came running into that area.
"The two players, Savic and Grealish, disappeared from my view and then very quickly four police officers came charging to that area.
"There was quite a commotion down there, I couldn't tell you exactly what happened but it was Stefan Savic involved again.
