The athlete, identified as 28-year-old Lazar Dukic from Serbia, was reported missing in the water and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
The incident occurred during the 800-meter swimming segment of the competition at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth. Following the tragedy, the remaining events scheduled for the day were canceled, with organizers indicating a reassessment would be made to determine the status of the competition for the next three days.
