The Chinese anti-doping agency has demanded increased testing of US athletes on Thursday, alleging that the United States is hiding "systemic" doping violations. This comes amidst an escalating verbal dispute between the two nations, which are currently leading the Olympic medal standings.
The feud began after a media report in April revealed that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for a prohibited substance prior to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but were still permitted to participate in the competition. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accepted the Chinese authorities' explanation that the positive results were due to contaminated food, and as a result the athletes were not sanctioned.
