At least six killed after gunman opens fire on ‘multiple innocent people’ in Mississippi

A suspect is now in custody - (Thames Valley Police)

At least six people have been killed after a man shot at innocent people in Mississippi, US, on Friday night.

Multiple people died from the shooting, which happened in three different locations across West Point, a city in Clay County, Mississippi.

A suspect is now in custody.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said on Facebook:“Unfortunately tonight we have dealt with tragedy in our community. Multiple innocent lives lost due to violence.

“We do have the individual in custody and no longer poses a threat to our community.

“I ask that you lift our victims and their families in your prayers.

“Law Enforcement is busy investigating and will release an update as soon as possible.”

His post did not say how many fatalities there were, but the local television news for the area, WTVA, said six people died.

More details about the incident are expected to be released soon.

Located ⁠in northeastern Mississippi, Clay County has a population of nearly 20,000.
