'Many people are buying inexpensive "gold" spray-painted fixtures in order to make their homes look like they are decorated in this trend,' Sayonara Rell, founder of Sayo Designs, explains.
'True Neo Deco is about aged metals. Yellow, bright gold fixtures look cheap and tacky against the dark "moody" paint colours such as navy blue and burgundy that are currently popular.'
Sayo continues, 'Move to Satin Gold, Antique Brass, or Oil Rubbed Bronze. If the metal appears to resemble a wrapper, then you are better off skipping it. The modern interpretation of this trend is actually about combining warm tones with different textures and finishes, and not just the pure gold of the 1920s.'
