At 728g, this new 60-180mm f/2.8 lens is the lightest constant-aperture telephoto yet for L-Mount cameras – and it’s one of the more affordable workhorse zooms too

The trend towards smaller camera systems has pushed into optics – and the L-Mount just got its lightest constant-aperture telephoto yet. The LK Samyang AF 60-180mm f/2.8 L tweaks the usual 70-200mm focal lengths in order to create a lighter multi-purpose lens.

Launched earlier this year for E-Mount, the lens’ L-Mount launch is both the lightest and most compact in the category for L-Mount, the company says. The lens weighs in at 728 g / 25.7 oz and sits at 147 mm / 5.7 inches long.

Built from both LK Samyang (also known as Rokinon in the US) alongside German optics maker Schneider-Kreuznach, the lens is the third in the series built with both companies, adding a telephoto to the series that includes the AF 14-24mm f/2.8 and AF 24-60mm f/2.8 launched in 2025.

Besides being built for more portability than the typical 70-200mm workhorse, the new lens uses an advanced floating focus system. The company says that this helps boost sharpness throughout the lens’ focus range. A minimum focus distance of .35m gives the lens a .26 magnification capability for closeups.

That focus system is paired with a focus hold button, along with an auto-to-manual focus switch on the lens design.

Despite the lightweight build, the lens is still built with weather seals.

DCW Editor-in-Chief James Artaius got his hands on the E-Mount version of the lens during the CP+ trade show in Japan earlier this year and said the lens felt impressively small and lightweight, considering the zoom range and constant f/2.8 aperture.

Now, that more compact workhorse lens is arriving for shooters with L-Mount cameras. Orders for the new L-Mount version have already opened at several retailers. The L-Mount variant is expected to retail for $1,199 / £949 (inc VAT). Australia and Canada pricing has not yet been announced, but that converts to about CA$1,620 and AU$1,850.

That’s a fairly competitive price that puts it well under similar L-Mount options like the Panasonic Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/2.8 OIS and Sigma 70-200mm DG DN OS Sports.
