Rumours that Premier League side Aston Villa are circling to try to grab Alfredo Morelos from Rangers refuse to go away.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard won’t need telling that any move in the direction of the 26-year-old hotshot won’t go down well with his old club. But 90min insist that Rangers may now be open to talks over a deal for the Colombian ace as contract extension discussions appear to have hit the buffers.
Morelos has only 12 months on his contract to run and the thought of letting their prize asset walk away for nothing next year isn't an option they want to consider. Hence, Gerrard’s interest along with a host of other clubs is hardly surprising.
The Scottish giants would be looking for in the region of £30m for the man who scored 18 goals for them last season and is a massive favourite with Gers’ fans. Villa are looking for more firepower after finishing 14th last season and Gerrard would know exactly what he’s getting with Morelos.
If Villa were successful in pulling off a deal then that could trigger Danny Ings departure. The former Liverpool and Southampton striker is a proven goalscorer at Premier League but has been hampered with injuries.
Morelos, who has previously been linked with Newcastle and West Ham among others, won't be short of suitors should Rangers finally decide that they have to cash in.

Villa winger Trezeguet is a certain departure this summer but quite where he’ll end up is anyone’s guess. The 27-year-old looked close to a move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor in a £3m switch but now appears to have cooled on that.
The Egyptian spent the end of last season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir but sources close to the player suggest that he would prefer to move to Spain or France.
Speaking about his future in March, Morelos said: "We will see what happens and what God decides. Scottish football is very similar to the English Premier League. I would imagine we get watched by clubs there and, of course, we are doing well in the Europa League so we get a lot of exposure.
"It would be nice to play there because it is one of my favourite leagues. Our ex-manager Steven Gerrard went to the Premier League. I have spoken to him since, just the usual greetings and things. We've not had any further conversations."
Morelos joined Rangers from Finnish side HJK in the summer of 2017 and has since found the back of the net 112 times in 224 games - scoring exactly a goal every other game. Speaking about his relationship with Gerrard in February, Morelos said: "What I experienced with Steven Gerrard was something very nice, he trusted me a lot.
"He gave me the opportunity to always be in the starting line-up and I responded in the best way possible. We had a nice relationship that I hope will continue. I learned many things from him and I continue to use what he taught me."
