Aston Villa director responds to Steven Gerrard sack claim after Chelsea defeat amid Tuchel link

Aston Villa communications director Tommy Jordan has responded to a report which claimed that Steven Gerrard would be sacked following Chelsea's 2-0 win at Villa Park. The former Liverpool midfielder faces an increasingly uncertain future at west Midlands club amid a string of uninspiring results.

The Villains currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone despite spending around £60million in the summer transfer window. Despite Gerrard's side giving the Blues a good run for their money, Mason Mount piled on the misery with two well-taken efforts to extend Graham Potter's five-game unbeaten streak.

As the home support, who were clearly unhappy, began to leave the ground early, doubt was quickly cast over the Villa boss' future. According to the Telegraph, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been identified as the primary candidate to replace Gerrard.

In the event that Villa fail to secure the Argentine, Thomas Tuchel has also reportedly been lined up. The former Chelsea boss is said to have already turned down managerial offers from two Premier League sides.

Amid the wild fire of speculation, Football Insider claimed that Gerrard has already been removed from his position as Villa head coach. But, the Villa communications director has since clarified that this is not the case, rubbishing said report.

As pictured below, Jordan tweeted: "How many times can you publish complete lies before people unfollow the account? Not sure why anyone actually follows this account. If you do, you shouldn’t."

Tuchel has been out of a job since Todd Boehly decided to replace the German with Graham Potter. Chelsea supporters will be disheartened to see their former boss pick up another job in the Premier League amid a uniquely close relationship between one another.

He was a beacon of hope for many Blues fans as he guided the club through as many highs as low. Tuchel will undoubtedly have a number of clubs after his signature so it's no surprise to see him being lined up with a new job already.
