A charge against Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds for allegedly assaulting now-councillor Louise Elliot has been dropped.
Cr Reynolds was charged after an alleged incident between herself and Ms Elliot at a meeting in May last year about the University of Tasmania's move into the Hobart CBD.
Ms Elliot alleged Cr Reynolds had grabbed her left bicep, pulling her down towards her face while continuing to apply pressure to her arm.
In March, Cr Reynolds said she was disappointed that police had charged her with the summary offence.
"I continue to deny any unlawful conduct and will vigorously defend the allegation," she said.
"I have not been charged with a crime but with a summary offence, which means I remain eligible under the Local Government Act 1993 to remain on the council and as Lord Mayor."
In a statement on Monday police said the charge of common assault would be discontinued after a review of the case file by the Police Department's Principal Legal Officer.
Police said the review included consideration of additional witness statements and as a result it was determined not to continue the matter.
