GUWAHATI: The Assam government will roll out a full-fledged "millet mission" on November 16, with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launching the mission for a seven-year period from this month to meet the nutritional needs of the population, especially women and children.
To promote shipment of nutri-cereals, the Union ministry of commerce and industry, through its apex agricultural export promotion body, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), has prepared a comprehensive strategy to promote Indian millet exports across the globe commencing on December 2022. The major millets grown in Assam are finger millet, fox tail millet and sorghum, all nutrient-rich varieties.
