GUWAHATI: Buoyed by the success of the Punjab assembly election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to throw its hat in the election ring for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). It will contest in all the 60 wards with 99% candidates to be picked from among the residents of respective wards. The dates for the election are likely to be announced shortly.
Speaking to TOI, AAP National Council member and Assam in-charge, Rajesh Sharma, who is closely monitoring the preparations for the urban polls, said the Kejriwal model will work in the Assam capital like the way it did in Punjab. AAP achieved its first breakthrough in the state by winning in two wards in the recently concluded municipal board elections in Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts even though the BJP swept the polls.
