Aslan 'shocked and saddened' over death of Coolio after late star revealed plans of collaboration on new 'banger'

Aslan members said they were 'shocked and saddened' to hear of the death of Coolio and said it is unfortunate that they never got to record the song they had planned to do together before his sudden passing.

The late rapper, real name Artis Levon Ivey Jr, who died on Wednesday at age 59, previously shared that he was planning to come to Ireland to work on a collaboration with the Irish rock legends.

The Gangsta’s Paradise hitmaker said: "We've just got into it. We're working on a track. We haven't even started writing any lyrics.

“The track is being built as we speak. Somewhere within the next four to six weeks we should have something tangible we could work with,” he added, in an interview with The Irish Examiner earlier this year.

"It's probably going to be a banger, I would imagine. I don't know if it's going to be dark and deep or if we're going to go clubby and happy that remains to be seen.

“I'm more inclined with being dark and deep and still being a banger.”

But the band confirmed the collaboration never came to fruition in the end.

Their management told Irish Daily Mirror: “Unfortunately there was nothing recorded as we had only been approached about it and no further developments happened in advance of the sad and sudden passing of Coolio.

“Christy, Joe, Alan and Billy were shocked and saddened to hear this news yesterday morning. Their thoughts are with his family, management, crew and friends.”

The US rapper died on Wednesday afternoon, his manager at Trinity Artists International, Sheila Finegan, confirmed.

"We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon," she said in a statement.

"He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly.

"Thank you to everyone worldwide who has listened to his music and to everyone who has been reaching out regarding his passing.

"Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers."

The rapper was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s house in Los Angeles, according to US media outlet TMZ.
