Asian Para Games: Sumit Antil wins gold, sets new records in javelin throw

NEW DELHI: Indian para-athletes Sumit Antil and Pushpendra Singh made their nation proud by achieving gold and bronze medals in the men's Javelin Throw-F64 final on Day 3 of the 4th Asian Para Games. Sumit Antil's outstanding performance earned him the gold medal while setting new records in the event.

He broke the Asian Para Games record, the World record, and the Asian record with a phenomenal throw of 73.29 meters, accomplished during his third attempt of the competition.

The silver medal in the event went to Sri Lanka's Arachchige Samitha, who recorded a throw of 62.42 meters. Sumit's compatriot, Pushpendra Singh, secured the bronze medal with a throw of 62.06 meters. The Indian para-athletes' exceptional performances have resulted in a successful campaign for India at the 4th Asian Para Games.

With these remarkable achievements, India currently holds the fifth position in the medal standings, having won a total of 36 medals, including 10 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The Indian contingent at the 4th Asian Para Games consists of 303 athletes, including 191 men and 112 women, marking the largest participation in the history of the continental event.

This year's performance builds on India's success at the 2018 Asian Para Games, where the nation sent 190 athletes and returned with an impressive tally of 72 medals, including 15 gold.

The achievements of Sumit Antil and Pushpendra Singh represent the nation's commitment to para-athletics and its dedication to excelling on the international stage.
