NEW DELHI: India's Prachi Yadav continued her impressive performance in the 4th Asian Para Games by clinching a gold medal in the Canoe women's KL2 event. Prachi's victory added to the flurry of medals that India has been winning in the ongoing event.
Prachi had already secured a silver medal on Day 1 in the women's VL2 final, narrowly missing out on the gold. In the women's KL2 event, she finished on top with a timing of 54.962 seconds. China's Shanshan Wang claimed the silver medal with a timing of 55.674 seconds, while Iran's Roya Soltani settled for the bronze with a timing of 56.714 seconds.
On the first day of competition, Prachi had a close battle with Uzbekistan's Irodakhon Rustamova. Both athletes were separated by a mere 1.022 seconds, with Prachi securing a silver medal with a timing of 1:03.47 seconds, while Irodakhon claimed the gold with a timing of 1:02.125 seconds. Japan's Saki Komatsu won the bronze medal with a timing of 1:11.635 seconds.
In the Canoe Men's KL3 Final event, Manish Kaurav secured a bronze medal with a timing of 44.605 seconds. He narrowly missed the gold, falling short by just 2.347 seconds. Uzbekistan's Khasan Kuldashev won the gold medal with a timing of 42.258 seconds, and Kazakhstan's Zhalgas Taikenov claimed the silver with a timing of 44.605 seconds.
Simran Vats delivered a stunning performance, securing a silver medal in the women's 100m T12 event during Tuesday's action at the ongoing 4th Asian Para Games. She clocked an impressive 12.68 seconds, coming oh-so-close to the gold, missing it by a mere 0.16 seconds.
The gold went to Indonesia's Ni Made Arianti Putri, who not only claimed the top spot but also set a new Asian Para Games record with a remarkable time of 12.52 seconds. This feat surpassed the previous record held by China's Guohua Zhou, who had maintained it for nine years with a timing of 12.56 seconds.
With Prachi's gold, Simran's silver and Manish's bronze, India's medal count at the 4th Asian Para Games continued to grow, building on the success of Day 1. The Indian contingent, which includes 303 athletes, has high hopes for further medal victories in the competition.
In the 2018 Asian Para Games, India sent 190 athletes and secured 72 medals, including 15 gold, marking their best performance at the event at that time.
