NEW DELHI: In August, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had come down hard on 13 national sports federations (NSFs) for their failure to assign a female/support staff or compliance officer with their respective team contingents for the Asian Games, beginning later this month.
The SAI had, in its office circular, warned these NSFs – one among them was Indian Golf Union (IGU) – against violating the government’s guidelines concerning the safety of women athletes during foreign trips and had categorically directed them to send a revised contingent list with one female coach/support staff member. Else, the teams would not be cleared.
