India's women's kabaddi team won the country's third gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games, beating Iran 37-34 in a tense final at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya. The Indian side went through the entire tournament unbeaten, having already got the better of Iran once before in the group stage.
The gold takes India's overall medal count to 27, made up of three gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze. It comes a day after a strong showing on day 7, where the country added a marathon silver, a shooting silver and a squash bronze.

India women's kabaddi team stay unbeaten to win Asian Games gold
The Indian women's kabaddi team went through its entire campaign without a loss, closing it out with a hard fought win over Iran in the final. India had earlier thrashed Bangladesh and Japan in the Pool A stage and had already beaten Iran once in the group phase, setting up the rematch in the final.
This gold is only India's third at the 2026 Asian Games, after the women's cricket team's title and the shooting pair of Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet winning the mixed team 10m air pistol event on the previous day.
Sawan Barwal's marathon silver ended a 44 year wait for India
On day 7, Sawan Barwal gave India its first medal of the day with a silver in the men's marathon, clocking 2 hours 11 minutes and 37 seconds. The medal ended a long gap for India in this event at the Asian Games, since the country's last marathon medal had come at the 1982 Delhi Games.

India's shooters add another silver in 50m rifle 3 positions
India's second medal on day 7 came in shooting, where Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod scored 1,763 points to take silver in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team event, finishing behind China's winning score of 1,773. Tilottama and Vidarsa also advanced to the individual final, finishing third and sixth respectively in qualification.
Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar's bronze in mixed doubles squash
The mixed doubles squash pair of Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar settled for bronze after losing their semifinal to Hong Kong's Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong 1-2, with games going 10-11, 11-2, 10-11 at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena. Their medal was confirmed after an 11-3, 11-5 win over the Philippines' David Pelino and Jemyca Aribado in the quarterfinal.

Day 1: India opened its campaign with two shooting silvers, Elavenil Valarivan in the women's 10m air rifle individual event, and a team silver alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod.
Day 2: Himanshu Dhillon took silver and Rudrankksh Patil bronze in the men's 10m air rifle individual event, the same pair combined with Parth Mane for team silver, and Suchika Tariyal won bronze in MMA.
Day 3: A quiet day produced just one medal, but it was gold, as the Indian women's cricket team beat Sri Lanka by 148 runs in the final, built on Smriti Mandhana's 79 off 45 balls and a three wicket haul from Deepti Sharma.
Day 4: Five medals came in, led by Mirabai Chanu's silver in women's 49kg weightlifting, along with bronze medals for the men's badminton team, Jay Meena in soft tennis, and both the men's and women's skeet shooting teams.
Day 5: Naorem Roshibina Devi won silver in women's 60kg sanda, the mixed 4x400m relay team of Vishal T.K., M.R. Poovamma, Manu T.S. and Vithya Ramraj also added silver, and bronze medals followed in the women's 10,000m, rowing and shooting.

India's tally so far this year sits well behind its two previous outings. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, India won 107 medals in all, 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze, finishing fourth overall, its best ever showing at the Games. That came after the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, where India brought home 70 medals, 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze, to finish eighth, a tally that had then overtaken its previous best from the 2010 Guangzhou Games.
