Ashley Cole agrees with Michael Owen about Liverpool but Rio Ferdinand backs Chelsea

Liverpool will be bidding to reach their first League Cup final since 2016, as they prepare to take on Arsenal later this evening.

The Reds were held to a 0-0 stalemate at Anfield just 7 days ago with the Gunners also reduced to ten men as Granit Xhaka was dismissed early on.

Having last tasted cup success in the UEFA Champions League final back in 2019, Jurgen Klopp will be keen to add even more silverware to his trophy cabinet this season.

Hoping to follow up on Sunday's impressive 3-0 home victory over Brentford, the Merseysiders have reached more League Cup finals than any other team (12) heading into tonight's winner-takes-all tie.

Former Reds forward Michael Owen has provided his thoughts ahead of the clash, hailing praise firstly on the Gunners resolute defending throughout the first leg.

Speaking for BetVictor, the 42-year-old began : “I have to admit, I was impressed by Arsenal’s performance last week.”

“To play for so long with ten men and too hold out was frankly, an un-Arsenal type result. Liverpool were impressive against Brentford and should have scored more than the three they did.

“Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are obviously big misses, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Diogo Jota were bright throughout the game. I think Arsenal will have more of the ball, but Liverpool will cause a lot of problems on the break. 2-1 to Liverpool.”

Elsewhere, former Arsenal and Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole is also tipping Liverpool to progress beyond tonight's semi-final second leg.

“I think Liverpool have maybe a little bit too much for Arsenal,'' said the former England international, as he previewed the two legged clash on Sky Sports recently.

Additionally, former Manchester United stalwart Rio Ferdinand believes this year's winners have already booked their place in February's final at Wembley Stadium, tipping Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea to go all the way.

“I think Chelsea will win it,” Ferdinand said on Vibe with FIVE.
