Asda shoppers 'drooling' over 90p air fryer snack that's 'better than chips'

Asda shoppers have been full of praise for a simple own-brand frozen snack that costs less than £1 and takes just minutes to cook.

The supermarket's budget Just Essentials range includes Potato Pops - potato balls similar to mini hash browns or US favourite tater tots - which cost just 90p for a 500g bag. Asda has shared a few interesting ways to cook the pops on its TikTok page, saying that they are ideal for creating the "ultimate fakeaway" at home.

One video suggests putting the snack in an air fryer for eight minutes, and adding diced chilli, onion, pepper and garlic to a pan with sesame seed oil while they cook. Add a blend of spices and soy sauce into the pan before throwing the finished crispy potato pops in, and finish off the dish with Asda's Chip Shop Curry sauce.

Followers were left impressed by the cheap and cheerful meal as they took the comments section to share their thoughts. "Drooling over this - I'm making this at the weekend," one person vowed.

Over on the Asda website, the potato pops have also earned rave reviews from shoppers. "Great taste and texture, will definitely buy again at such a ridiculously good price," one impressed customer wrote.

Another said: "These are fantastic. Soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. I prefer them to oven chips!"

"Simple, tasty and filling. Great for both kids and adults," added a third. "Quick to cook too, especially if you have an air fryer!"

Someone else said in their five-star review: "I have to give these top marks as a tasty change from chips. They have a nice flavour and texture, cook quickly. An inexpensive freezer fallback. Will be buying again."
