A mum was "mortified" on behalf of two women seen shopping in Asda at 5pm in the afternoon - as they were in pyjamas and dressing gown.
There have always been mixed opinions on what is suitable attire to wear to the supermarket, and individual shops have their own rules regarding how revealing clothing should be.
But there is nothing which prohibits visiting the shops in ultra-casual clothing.
The mum arrived to Asda just after 5pm, coming straight from work, and saw two women enter the store, wrapped up in their dressing gowns, reports Hull Live.
She called it a "bizarre" choice of attire for a food shop, and said she would be "mortified" if someone saw her dressed the same.
The Hull mum said: "I just popped into the little Asda on Beverley Road after work, it was just before 5pm and two women were walking towards the store in their pyjamas and dressing gowns. I couldn't believe it.
"If you are still in your pyjamas at that time of day that's your business but to go to the shops like that is just bizarre. I would be mortified if someone saw me out and about in my pyjamas. They didn't even look embarrassed or anything."
In Australia, another shopper had a similar view, and was recently shocked to find a shopper in their dressing gown in a frozen aisle in the supermarket.
The shopper sent a photograph to Yahoo News Australia of the unsuspecting shopper to main that "all dignity had gone out the window" because of their chosen outfit.
Some people disagree with the duo's choice of attire, and others think there is no harm in what you wear.
One Australian personal trainer spoke of the "disapproving looks" she received after wearing a sports bra to the supermarket.
Sophie Allen took to TikTok to discuss the topic, she wrote on her video as she browsed the aisles of her local supermarket: "The hate you get being a female wearing a crop top in the supermarket just hits different."
And commenters on the video were equally as critical of Sophie's outfit choice, as they said the issue with her top was that it appeared to be a sports bra - which is usually worn with another top over it.
One person wrote: "That's not a crop top though, that’s a sports bra. That’s like a guy walking in the store saying 'The hate you get wearing just briefs in a store'."
While another said: "Yes, there are basic dress standards - even for you - which includes wearing a shirt."
And a third posted: "It might be because you're treating a public space like a private space. Have respect for other people when you're out. It’s not all about you."
