An Asda shopper thinking he was picking up a tasty bargain was charged £617 for "reduced" price croissants.
The man popped into the supermarket for a few bits after work and couldn't resist the tempting yellow sticker.
After seeing money off, he popped it into his basket - but had to pick his jaw up off the floor when he went to pay.
A packet of two Asda Extra Special almond croissants were now marked as just 60p, instead of the original £1.70, and the shopper wanted them for his breakfast the following morning.
But the trip to the Warrington store in Cheshire could have cost him a bomb if he wasn't paying attention, the LiverpoolEcho reports.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, says he was glad he didn't just tap without looking at the total!
He said: "It was a good job I did a double take, I was very close to just tapping my card without checking.
"The member of staff and myself both saw the funny side of it though. Imagine if I hadn't noticed, they'd have had to have been the best croissants of my life."
Thankfully the item was voided after the man called a nearby member of staff over.
An Asda spokesperson said the incorrect price was a "complete anomaly", caused by a smudged barcode.
They added: “We know our croissants are good, but we agree £617 might be pushing it!
"This looks to have been a one-off caused by a smudged or damaged barcode that has scanned incorrectly and we’ve checked our other yellow sticker products at this store and not found any other issues.
"Thankfully this was spotted and rectified by our colleague immediately, and we hope this customer enjoyed their croissants knowing he only paid 60p for them in the end.”
But that shopper's shock was nothing compared to Karla Tandazo, who was charged whopping £4,689.98 for some salmon. at Waitrose.
Despite the initial shock and confusion, Karla does see the funny side of the situation back in 2019.
She said: "I was working from home when I made the order.
"You have to imagine, I wasn't thinking too hard about this - I saw that salmon deal, and thought it sounded nice, so I put them in the basket.
"Then I got an email from American Express telling me about unusual recent activity, which is when I discovered I'd been charged thousands of pounds."
"For a moment, I wondered if I'd been so silly and ordered 1,404 salmon packs.
"After I could see there must have been some kind of system error, I got in touch with Waitrose, who - to be fair - were very helpful and apologetic."
