Asda has announced a major change to its discounts available to thousands of shoppers. Customers who have a Blue Light card registered on the store's Rewards app have been told many products will no longer qualify for the 10% discount it had offered.
The Blue Light card offers discounts at thousands of stores including Asda to those who work in the emergency services such as nurses and doctors, the NHS, social care and armed forces. But while Asda used to include the majority of its products in the discount scheme - including homeware, clothing, non-fresh foods, pet products, household goods and toys - it has now said it is cutting out many sections of its products.
This is the second change within the past few weeks as last month Blue Light members were told to receive the benefit they would have to register it through its Rewards app. It means members no longer have to show their card and ID in store to receive the saving but instead the discount is paid into a Cashpot on the store Reward app when it is scanned at the checkout. The amount can then be used as a voucher towards a future shop.
In an email to those who have already registered their card Asda told customers: "We are getting in touch as you are a verified Blue Light member with Asda Rewards and we wanted to let you know that from Thursday 15th June, you may notice some changes to your current benefit.
"As part of the ongoing evolution of Asda Rewards, Blue Light Card holders will continue to receive 10% Cashpot benefit on all fresh products in our stores. However you may notice that other products are no longer included in the offer.
"You will continue to earn Asda Pounds on non-fresh food, clothing, health and beauty, household, entertainment and homeware products in the same way as other Asda Rewards users, and you’ll still be able to make the most of all the other Asda Rewards benefits to continue building your Cashpot."
It went on the explain what was included in the offer. It said: "What’s included in Fresh products? All fresh meat, fish, fruit & vegetables, food to go, ready meals, chilled & dairy, bakery and flowers."
