Asda extends Blue Light Card discount for NHS and emergency services workers - full list of who’s eligible

Asda has announced that it will be further extending its Blue Light Card discount for NHS and emergency service workers until the end of April.

Bosses said that they want to “acknowledge the amazing work that the workforce does” by prolonging the discount offered.

The supermarket currently offers 10% off for emergency service workers who have a Blue Light Card in a scheme that was set to end on March 31, 2023. Now, the offer will be prolonged until the end of April.

The offer is available in all of its stores across the UK, of which there are currently more than 630. The discount can be used across some food and drink items in stores as well as on George at Asda clothing, homeware, toys and gifts.

Blue Light Card holders simply have to present their valid card at the checkout to receive their discount. At present, the offer is only valid in stores and not online and may be pulled at any time, though it is currently set to expire on April 30.

When Asda announced it was extending the discount last year, Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner, said: “We are delighted to have extended our partnership with the Blue Light Card into its third year. Our emergency services personnel do an incredible job and we’re happy to be able to continue this discount, along with our own Asda Rewards loyalty scheme and our everyday low prices, into the new year.”

Tom Dalby, CEO at Blue Light Card, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with ASDA and understand how much it means to our members, especially at this time of year. The exclusive 10% discount across food and soft drinks, George clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical helps to support families and individuals across the UK during what is a tough period for many and highlights ASDA’s appreciation of NHS staff and other frontline workers.”

Among the workers who qualify for a Blue Light Card are NHS workers, police officers, social care workers and members of the Armed Forces. The card is available for £4.99 for two years and also offers discounts at scores of other high street and online retailers.
