As play-in race tightens, Golden State’s Draymond Green: ‘I don’t give a damn about the Rockets’

The Houston Rockets (35-35) have won 10 of 11 games. The Golden State Warriors (36-34) have lost six of nine. The race for the No. 10 spot in the Western Conference standings — and with it, the last spot in the play-in tournament for a potential 2024 playoffs berth — is intensifying entering the last 12 games of the regular season.

Another head-to-head matchup looms between the Rockets and Warriors on April 4, and it’s in Houston, where the home team is 25-11 this season. But are the Warriors thinking about Houston’s charge?

Not according to Draymond Green, who declared this when asked about the tightening standings after Sunday’s loss in Minnesota:

I don’t give a damn about the Rockets.

There’s a long history between Green and the Rockets, dating back to postseason battles in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019 (all won by the Warriors versus an entirely different Houston team), and this could add even more intrigue as the 2023-24 season winds down.

For now, the best thing Houston can do is keep winning in advance of that April 4 matchup. Their next opportunity comes Monday at home versus Portland (19-52), with tipoff at 7:00 p.m. Central.
