An artisan bakers is set to open opposite a railway arch in one of Manchester’s newest neighbourhoods.
Half Dozen Other is going to open its first customer-facing bakery in Red Bank, part of the huge Victoria North project which is set to transform the forgotten corner of the city centre. In all, 35,000 people will live in homes from the project, developed by Far East Consortium (FEC), stretching from Angel Meadow to Collyhurst.
Part of the project will see new businesses pop-up in the Red Bank area, which is already home to restaurants and bars. Half Dozen Other is part of the Pot Kettle Black group, which already has coffee shops in the city.

“We are really excited to open our doors at Red Bank,” said Mark Flanagan from Half Dozen Other. “Due to the high demand for our wholesale baked goods and our desire to open our own retail bakehouse, this site is perfect for us.
“We’ll be serving up our standard breads, cakes and viennoiserie alongside our modern takes on classic bakes. All the while customers will be able to spectate on the mixing, rolling and shaping taking place at the Bakehouse.”
Currently, the bakery specialises in ‘classic bakes with modern takes’, including both sweet and savoury croissants, impressive Danish pastries and flavoured focaccias. It has signed a 10-year lease with FEC on a 4,500 sq. ft premises with the Red Bank Arches.
In taking on a lease at the Arches, the independent bakery joins a growing number of popular eateries nearby, including renowned spatzle restaurant The Sparrows, Foundation Coffee House and Green Arches Brewery and Bar. FEC says more announcements are set to follow as part of its commercial strategy, FOUND, which is initially being delivered via sites in Red Bank including the Arches, Love Factory and more.
Jake Scott-Thrale, Asset Manager at FEC, added: “Half Dozen Other perfectly aligns with our approach of working with independent and entrepreneurial businesses to help people find and enjoy this emerging part of the city. Half Dozen Other has risen to fame on the brunch plates of Mancunians, so we’re excited to be working with them to expand their production capacity and moreover, bring their delicious bakes to local residents.”
