Arson attack on volunteer ambulances in London investigated as hate crime

  • Metropolitan Police are investigating an apparent arson attack on four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service (Hatzola) in Golders Green, London, as an antisemitic hate crime.
  • The incident occurred about 1.45am on Monday, with reports of explosions believed to be linked to gas canisters on board the vehicles, causing windows to break in nearby flats.
  • No injuries were reported, but nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and police are currently seeking three suspects.
  • Superintendent Sarah Jackson confirmed officers are conducting urgent enquiries, examining CCTV, and engaging with faith leaders to provide reassurance.
  • The attack has caused significant community concern, with comparisons drawn to similar antisemitic arson incidents in Belgium and the Netherlands, and Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemning the "sickening attack."
