Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the Gunners made a mistake by not signing Andrew Redmayne on a professional contract.
The Australian goalkeeper was the hero for his nation as he made the crucial penalty shootout save against Peru to send the Aussies to the Qatar 2022 World Cup later this year. Redmayne was brought on for the shootout against Peru in Australia's intercontinental qualifying match and is considered a penalty-saving specialist.
Wenger admitted the Gunners should have signed the 33-year-old but instead opted for young Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny who went on to play over 190 Premier League games for Arsenal. Redmayne played against the Gunners in a friendly back in 2005, leading to a two-week trial alongside Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Ashley Cole.
