Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have a chance of winning the Premier League title with no team setting themselves apart from the rest.
The Gunners have begun the campaign with five wins from six games, leaving them top of the table despite tasting defeat for the first time in their last outing at Manchester United. Mikel Arteta has added some key personnel in the summer with the likes of Gabriel Jesus arriving.
Arsenal narrowly missed out on the top four last season and their recruitment drive was motivated by their want to return to the Champions League. Now though Wenger believes they could be an outside bet for the title, which they haven't won since their Invincible season in 2004.
The Frenchman said on his former side: “I would say they are moving in the right direction. I honestly think there is no weak position in the team... they are young, promising players and they have bought well this year.
“There is no completely dominating team this season and Arsenal has a chance with the potential that is there. We used to be in the top four and why not again? You cannot even rule out the fact that they can fight for the title and hopefully they can do it.”
Arsenal have seen off the likes of Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Fulham early on in the season. Their new look squad, filled with young talent, has already shown plenty of potential but faces a tough task in overhauling the likes of Manchester City.
Wenger pointed to no dominant side, but those from the blue half of Manchester have won four of the past five titles and are targeting a third straight triumph. They are yet to taste defeat and have scored 20 times in their six games with Erling Haaland quickly adapting to life in England.
October will prove a greater assessment of Arsenal's title credentials with games against City, Liverpool and Tottenham all to come in a relatively short period. All three contests will take place at the Emirates, although only one of those fixtures was won by the Gunners last term.
Arsenal have not finished in the top four since 2016 and will be batting with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham for a top four spot before they can begin thinking about any title ambitions.
Club chief Edu said in the summer: "A club like Arsenal, at our size, is not building to be fighting for fourth place. I’m sorry. We have to realistic — there’s City, Liverpool etc — that’s fine, I accept that. But also, you can not accept that. Here, when you join this club, when you see our size, we cannot accept it."
