Arsenal missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table after being held to a goalless draw by Liverpool on Thursday. Draws for Manchester City and Aston Villa against Brighton and Crystal Palace, respectively, 24 hours earlier presented Arsenal with the chance to open up an eight-point lead at the summit.
However, the reigning Premier League champions produced a defensively resolute performance at the Emirates Stadium and, perhaps, could have taken all three points had they had some firepower with Mohamed Salah away at the Africa Cup of Nations in addition to Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike sidelined through injury.
The result keeps Arsenal six points clear at the top of the table, while Liverpool remain fourth and two points clear of Brentford following a third successive draw which extends their unbeaten run across all competitions to ten games. Gomez on as his replacement.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne90+2 min: That does not look good and Gary Neville calls Martinelli an “idiot’ for pushing a stricken Bradley off the pitch.

Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne85 min: The offside flag has just saved Martinelli there as his cross was really poor. Another yellow card has been shown, this time to a member of the Liverpool coaching staff.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne83 min: Mikel Arteta booked for leaving his technical area.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne81 min: That was close. Szoboszlai ‘s effort ripples the roof of the net. Raya did look to have that covered though.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne80 min: Madueke puts the ball into a dangerous area, but once again not a single Arsenal player gambled and they now face another dangerous free-kick after Jesus takes out Szoboszlai.
The Liverpool No8 will surely fancy his chances here...
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
21:37 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHere we go, Eze gets his chance after four straight league matches on the bench. Big cheer as he comes on. He's got the best part of 15 minutes to make the difference.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne77 min: Two more Arsenal changes as Eze and Madueke replace Odegaard and Saka.
Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium
21:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSzoboszlai really does not have his shooting boots on tonight, does he!
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne76 min: Saliba stoops to head away Frimpong’s cross but his clearance falls to Szoboszlai who fires over. Think the Liverpool midfielder rushed his effort there.
He gets another bite at the cherry but Gabriel makes the block.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne74 min: Moment of brilliance from Martinelli to wriggle out of a tight situation near the touchline but he then overhits a pass to Lewis-Skelly and that attack breaks down.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:29 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne70 min: Into the final 20 minutes here at the Emirates. Liverpool have been the dominant side all second half, but you would expect Arsenal - as the home side - to have a period where they ask questions of the visitors.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne67 min: Couple of Arsenal players down. Martinelli was pushed in the back by Frimpong while Saka got struck in the face by the ball.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
21:24 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal have got a major problem down their left. Frimpong is running riot against Lewis-Skelly and only the fact he hasn't found a decent cross has stopped Liverpool creating big chances.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:23 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne65 min: Questionable decision-making from Frimpong as he is clean through but elects to pass instead of shooting and the chance goes begging.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne64 min: Here come the Arsenal changes as Trossard and Gyokeres make way for Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
21:21 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSzoboszlai with a free-kick from near enough the exact same position he won the match from when these sides met at Anfield in August. That day he found the top corner. Today... the fans behind the goal.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne62 min: Not this time for Szoboszlai as his free-kick is well wide.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne61 min: Mac Allister draws a foul from Zubimendi and Liverpool have a free-kick. It looks quite far out but it would appear Szoboszlai fancies his chances of a repeat of Anfield...
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne59 min: Frimping has been Liverpool’s liveliest attacker today, he beats Lewis-Skelly in their first 1v1. Bodes well for the Dutchman as he has the beating of the left-back for pace.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
21:16 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWith Calafiori still out, Arsenal could really have done without Hincapie limping off. Lewis-Skelly is a good option to have, of course, but they are slightly stretched in that area of the pitch.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne57 min: Lewis-Skelly replaces Hincapie as Saliba has to race across to stop Frimpong latching onto a ball over the top.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne56 min: Trossard tricks his way to the edge of the box and looks to clip a pass for Saka at the back post but Zubimendi intercepts the ball and the attack breaks down.
Concern for Arsenal here as Hincapie is down and Lewis-Skelly is being readied.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne54 min: Liverpool have been the far better team at the start of the second half. Wirtz is picking up some decent positions, while Frimpong has shown he will be a threat in behind the Arsenal defence.
Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium
21:09 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneIt's been such an evenly-contested match this, but Arsenal have seen a lot more of the ball. Part of Arteta's messaging at half-time will no doubt have been to convert that into more goalscoring opportunities in this second period.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne48 min: Wirtz weaves his way into the Arsenal box and goes down after Trossard steps across him. VAR checking a potential penalty here.
Check complete: No penalty.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne46 min: No changes from either side at the break. Looking at their options on the bench, Arsenal are certainly the stronger.
KICK-OFF
21:03 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSecond half is underway at the Emirates.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
21:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWhat a goal this would have been for Conor Bradley.
Liverpool so close to taking the lead!

Conor Bradley's effort CRASHES against the crossbar! 💥 pic.twitter.com/ylmgvHplPs
HALF-TIME
20:48 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal 0-0 Liverpool
Goalless at the break. Despite Arsenal’s relative dominance, Liverpool have come closest to breaking the deadlock as Conor Bradley’s effort smacked against the crossbar.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:46 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne45 min: Into a couple of minutes of added time and Mac Allister is down after a clash with Odegaard.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
20:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAs fluent a move as Arsenal have had all half and no surprise that Rice and Odegaard are central to it.
Saka drifted inside and it's a good block to deny him.
Arsenal finishing the half well. Everything coming down their right - Timber must have got in behind five or six times.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:44 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne44 min: Smart play from Gyokeres as he turns the ball around the corner for Timber is only cleared as far as Rice who shoots into the ground and Alisson saves.
Good defending from Kerkez as he sticks at his task to stop Saka from shooting inside the area.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne42 min: Gravenberch tidies up at the back post after Timber dug out a decent cross. Ball comes straight back at Liverpool but they manage to ease the pressure by winning a free-kick.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne38 min: Frimpong is walking fine but Liverpool have to defend a Saka corner with one fewer player and they do so very well before Rice flashes the ball across the face of goal, but no takers.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne37 min: Things starting to heat up between both sets of players. Think the Liverpool camp think the ball should have been put out of play with Frimpong on the ground.
Looks a serious injury for the Dutchman.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
20:36 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal need to liven up. Any zip they had to their play early on has eased right off and the atmosphere has suffered as a result. Saying that, there's huge roars as Arsenal see Frimpong lying on the ground and decide to crack on with the attack.
Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium
20:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool fans have spent much of the season feeling Slot is not what he once was. Confirmation here. The ball flies out of play, and his first touch from the technical area is... terrible.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne34 min: This is the closest either side has come to scoring so far tonight.

Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne31 min: First Rice set-piece of the night is surprisingly poor as he floats the ball right into Alisson’s arms. The Brazilian then boots it straight out of play.
Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium
20:28 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHow mightily relieved Arsenal will have been when that ball bounced down off the crossbar and progressed no further, there. An error almost ruthlessly punished by Liverpool.
How close the visitors came to taking a lead through the rather unlikely source of Conor Bradley!
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne27 min: Liverpool have enjoyed their best period of the game and they almost take the lead following a moment of panic in the Arsenal defence, Bradley’s shot smacks against the crossbar before Gakpo has a shot charged down.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne24 min: Gravenberch manages to bundle his way through into the box but sees his shot deflected, Arsenal try to push up the pitch but Gyokeres is beaten to the ball by Konate and Van Dijk.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:23 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne23 min: Really good wing play by Trossard as he teases Bradley before skipping past the Liverpool defender and drives into the box only for his cross to be cleared.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne21 min: After a cagey start, Arsenal have certainly been the better side. Alisson had made an easy save from Saka, while also punching a corner clear.
No other clear cut chances otherwise.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
20:17 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneGyokeres has to be doing more there. First Timber nods it down and he's not there to provide the finishing touch. Then Saka brilliantly skips along the byline and Gyokeres is at the back post behind a wall of defenders.
Needs to make better runs in the box.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne16 min: Decent openings for Arsenal. First, Timber gets on the end of Rice’s lofted ball but none of his team-mates can connect to his cushioned header.
Then Saka skips past Mac Allister but can’t pick out Zubimendi in the middle.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne14 min: Frimpong vs Hincapie is shaping up to be an interesting battle. The Liverpool winger, well for tonight, is rapid when he gets going and is usually reliable in the final third.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne12 min: Huge roar from the Arsenal fans as Saka wins a corner off Kerkez.
Saka takes but Alisson does well to punch the ball clear and Trossard goes into the book for pulling back Wirtz as Liverpool attempted to hit Gunners on the counter.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne10 min: First chance for Saka to isolate his marker and he cuts inside Gakpo but sees his cross cleared before Timber’s tame cross is collected by Alisson and then Trossard sees a volley deflected.
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
20:07 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneNeither side offering much in attack yet, still feeling each other out. That'll suit Liverpool.
Weather update: absolutely filthy.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne7 min: Mikel Arteta told supporters to get to the ground early tonight, here’s why...

Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne4 min: Early battle between former Bayer Leverkusen team-mates Hincapie and Frimpong. Latter thinks he has won possession high in Arsenal’s half but the ball runs out of play.
Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
20:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne2 min: Liverpool have started with Wirtz down the middle and Gakpo in his usual left-wing position.
KICK-OFF!
20:01 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWe are underway at the Emirates Stadium.
Can Arsenal move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table?
We are about to find out!
Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium
19:59 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePre-match display looked good and the Emirates is bouncing ahead of kick-off. Arsenal have made a fair few good starts at home recently without having the goals to show for it.
Need to be ruthless here.
Slot admission

Arsenal seek Liverpool revenge mission
19:52 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThere was a clear pundit consensus formed in the aftermath of Arsenal's defeat at Anfield in August.
Coming so early in the season, it was billed as a chance for champions Liverpool to lay down an early marker after a huge summer of spending and for Arsenal to show this year could be different.
Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning late free-kick gave Liverpool a 1-0 win in a match with barely a chance to speak of. Arsenal registered only one shot on target.
Gary Neville said Arsenal played like they were “happy not to lose” and that Mikel Arteta's side did not have the right “mentality”.

Arsenal legends in the building
19:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal legends Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Emmanuel Petit are in attendance at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
All three have spoken to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off, talking up the Gunners' Premier League title chances.

How Arsenal plan to get Emirates rocking for Liverpool showdown
19:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal will have a stadium-wide display ahead of kick-off against Liverpool tonight as they look to take further control of the Premier League title race, writes Matt Verri.
After Manchester City and Aston Villa both drew on Wednesday, Arsenal know victory at Emirates Stadium will move them eight points clear at the top of the table.
It is set to be a huge occasion and efforts have been made to further boost the atmosphere with the latest supporter-led activation.
A red or white bag will be placed on every seat for the home fans to lift up ahead of kick-off, with instructions also to be put on the big screens to ensure supporters are in sync.

18:40 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe teams will be announced shortly!
Stay tuned...
Liverpool to secure second signing
18:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool are set to secure their second signing of the January transfer window.
The Reds have been active in the market so far, with the Premier League champions battling for a place in the top four after a sub-par start to their title defence.
Arne Slot’s side have agreed a deal for Mor Ndiaye, the left-sided centre-back, who starred for Senegal at the recent Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.

Arsenal injury latest
18:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRiccardo Calafiori has been ruled out of Arsenal's crunch clash with Liverpool.
The defender has not featured for the Gunners since their Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace before Christmas.
Calafiori has missed three matches since then and Mikel Arteta has confirmed he will once again be unavailable the visit of Liverpool to Emirates Stadium on Thursday.
Arsenal will also be without Cristhian Mosquera, who suffered an ankle injury against Brentford at the start of December.

Slot explains why Liverpool clash is 'a very special game' for Arsenal
18:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot has urged Liverpool to take confidence from their win over Arsenal in August as they push to make this season a success.
A stunning free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai gave Liverpool a 1-0 win at Anfield in August as the defending champions started their campaign with seven straight wins in all competitions.
Results have tailed off badly since then and Liverpool now trail Arsenal by 14 points ahead of their trip to north London on Thursday night.
Slot admitted in his pre-match press conference that momentum is on Arsenal’s side, but he insisted there were reasons to believe Liverpool could pick up a victory to potentially turn their season around.

Mikel Arteta says 'phenomenal' Arsenal star has reached new level
18:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneEberechi Eze has impressed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta with his "exceptional" response to a spell on the bench, writes Matt Verri.
The summer signing has not played a single minute in the Gunners’ last four Premier League matches, watching from the sidelines as Martin Odegaard has returned to his best form.
Eze has not featured in the top-flight since he was replaced just before the hour mark against Wolves last month.
Arteta pointed to the club's strength in depth as a reason for that and the fact that Arsenal are on a five-match winning run in the league.

Predicted Liverpool XI
18:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHugo Ekitike is, tonight, expected to miss Liverpool’s huge clash against Premier League title favourites Arsenal.
The striker missed the draw at Fulham with a muscle injury, with Reds manager Arne Slot hopeful at the time that Ekitike would recover in time to face the Gunners.
As of Wednesday morning, Ekitike has been unable to train with his team-mates, throwing his involvement against Arsenal into significant doubt.
In his place, Cody Gakpo is expected to lead the line, having scored against Fulham from the same role last time out, but could see himself as the focal point of a front three rather than spearheading a four-man attack.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Frimpong, Gakpo, Wirtz.

Predicted Arsenal XI
18:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneBukayo Saka is tonight expected to return to the Arsenal side for the visit of Liverpool.
The winger started on the bench against Bournemouth on Saturday before coming on midway through the second half.
Arsenal have been keen to manage his minutes when they have played three times in a week, but he should be fresh to come into the starting lineup against Liverpool.
Leandro Trossard will also hope to return in place of Gabriel Martinelli, who did not grab his chance when starting last time out.
Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Zubimendi, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Gyokeres, Trossard.

Today's settings
18:05 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe stakes are high in north London tonight.

Score prediction
17:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWhile Arsenal are expected to win this match, and quite convincingly in the view of many, these types of games rarely turn out in such a way.
Regardless of Liverpool’s form, this will be a close encounter and we think the Gunners will edge it - just.
Arsenal to win, 2-1.
Liverpool team news
17:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool's main injury concern is the in-form Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman missed the 2-2 draw at Fulham with a hamstring complaint as well as fatigue and Arne Slot remains unsure if the forward will be fit for the trip to north London.
If Ekitike is ruled out, Cody Gakpo is the most likely option to lead the line given Alexander Isak is out injured and Mohamed Salah is away on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Arne Slot has been rotating his full-backs recently, so it could mean that Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson start to provide a more solid defensive platform.

Arsenal team news
17:40 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArsenal’s injury woes are beginning to clear with Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera the only first team players sidelined along with youngster Max Dowman.
Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard are expected to return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench in the 3-2 win over Bournemouth, while Piero Hincapie should get the nod over Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back.
There is a decision to be made regarding Kai Havertz after he was left out of the squad on Saturday. Eberechi Eze will be hopeful of getting some minutes under his belt having not featured since the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over former club Crystal Palace.
