Arsenal vs Chelsea LIVE: Carabao Cup semi-final result, latest updates and fan reaction

Arsenal vs Chelsea LIVE - (Getty Images)

Arsenal vs Chelsea LIVE

Arsenal are through to the Carabao Cup final thanks to a 4-2 aggregate win over Chelsea. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the second leg with the final kick of the game as Liam Rosenior’s interesting tactic ultimately backfired at the Emirates Stadium.

Trailing by one from the first-leg, the onus was on the Blues to take the game to their hosts, but in truth, didn’t really lay a glove on the Gunners and were hit with a sucker punch in second half stoppage time as Declan Rice picked out an unmarked Havertz and the former Chelsea striker kept his cool to take the ball around Robert Sanchez and then slotted the ball into an empty net.

It is a first major final for the Gunners in nearly six full years and they will face either Manchester City or Newcastle in the showpiece at Wembley on March 22. Follow Arsenal vs Chelsea back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri and Dom Smith at the Emirates Stadium!

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

21:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Really good from Fofana to make that his ball and flick it. Just wide. Chelsea are playing well in the final 10 minutes here. The goal they require to force extra time still yet to arrive, though...

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

82 min: Two Chelsea penalty claims are checked and cleared by VAR before Fofana tries a cheeky flick at Enzo’s corner but can’t steer an effort on target.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

80 min: Palmer takes and strikes it straight into the wall.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

79 min: Estevao gets caught in an Arsenal sandwich of Gabriel and Hincapie. Is able to win a free-kick in a very dangerous area, Enzo and Palmer are very interested in this.

Feels like another big moment in the tie.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

21:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's the chance Arsenal have been waiting for. It's a brilliant dinked cross from Zubimendi and Gabriel looks certain to score - anywhere but right at Cucurella's head and he surely does. Big moment.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

77 min: Eze wins a free-kick after being clipped by Chalobah. The Arsenal No10 passes over the set-piece duty to Rice who plays it short and the ball eventually finds Gabriel at the back post but his header is blocked by Cucurella’s head.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:33 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

74 min: Garnacho replaces Andrey Santos.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

72 min: Garnacho, responsible for keeping this tie alive with a brace in the first-leg, will be on for Chelsea shortly.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

21:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Looks like it will be Martinelli over to the right wing after those two changes.

Havertz has looked sharp in his last couple of appearances - can he make a telling contribution against his former club to fire Arsenal to Wembley?

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

70 min: Estevao in the book now.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

69 min: Arsenal respond with a double change of their own as Madueke and Gyokeres make way for Trossard and Havertz.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

21:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Gusto booked for diving, and quite rightly I think. Hincapie never touched him.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

68 min: Gusto has his name taken for a dive. Well spotted by the referee.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

65 min: Chelsea come forward with Estevao down the left, he teases Saliba before passing to Enzo who curls an effort over the bar. Blues certainly taking the game to Arsenal more since those changes.

Zubimendi hurried into a mistake, conceding a sloppy throw-in.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:23 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

64 min: Gusto does well to win a corner off Hincapie and Enzo comes across to take. It’s an outswinger which is headed clear by Gabriel but only as far as Cucurella.

The Spaniard takes a touch before shooting but can’t keep his effort down.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

62 min: Some good news, those Chelsea changes means this game should open up for the final half hour.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

60 min: So then, it is Chelsea who make the first twist as they make a double change with Delap and Hato making way for Palmer and Estevao.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

58 min: Chelsea were readying a double change, but Gusto has gone down and is calling for treatment. Will this alter Rosenior’s plans?

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

21:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Looks as though Palmer and Estevao are both about to come on for Chelsea. That should give Arsenal a very different new problem to deal with.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

55 min: Liam Delap booked for a foul on Madueke near the touchline. A yellow card does seem a tad harsh based on the replay.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

21:13 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta booked as the frustration in the stadium just starts to grow. He switched between sarcastically laughing at the fourth official and then venting his anger after Piero Hincapie first doesn't get a free-kick awarded for him and then gives one away.

Tension is growing.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

21:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Joao Pedro is so good in those pockets, receiving the ball and then twisting and turning and earning a free-kick for minimal contact. It's a skill - and one that has made him the enemy of the Arsenal fans sat in front of the press box.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

52 min: Finally, some action in this second leg. Big tackles all over the pitch ends with Joao Pedro being fouled and then Mikel Arteta being booked...for laughing?

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

49 min: Madueke checks inside Hato and looks to pick out the run of Rice but gets too much on his cross and the ball drifts out of play for a goal kick to Chelsea.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

21:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

47 min: Kepa, very unconvincing at a corner, flaps at the ball and the ball is then stabbed wide. VAR check for a potential penalty is cleared.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

21:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea the first team out onto the pitch. A big second half is needed from them.

KICK-OFF!

21:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Right then, back underway at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea will have to take some risks at some point, they need at least one goal to force extra-time.

Fan reaction

20:57 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

This Arsenal fan was not impressed with the first-half display.

Fan thoughts

20:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

This Chelsea fan believes Liam Rosenior has an ace up his sleeve.

Will we see Estevao in the second half?

Fan reaction

20:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Not the most exciting half of football and some Arsenal fans have been left baffled by Gary Neville’s commentary.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

20:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Well Arsenal will go through if it stays like this but they don't have any real control at the moment. Chelsea's fluid system causing them problems. Best moments have come when they have just clipped balls over the top. So far, so tense.

HALF-TIME

20:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A cagey first-half comes to an end and it’s goalless.

Arsenal lead 3-2 on aggregate.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:46 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45 min: Just one minute of stoppage time.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:44 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

43 min: Fernandez strides forward and forces Kepa into a rather routine save. The Chelsea captain for the night certainly have that shot everything he had but Kepa was equal to it.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

41 min: Fernandez swings in a Chelsea corner but Kepa beats the ball away and Madueke completes the clearance.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

20:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal, when they're not pressing, are doing a good job of restricting the passing lanes available to Chelsea. It means that a lot of the visitors' possession is them passing it around the back, on the halfway line.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

40 min: Play stopped briefly for Joao Pedro to kick the second ball off the pitch. Chelsea forward gets a few cheers from the Arsenal supporters for doing so.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

38 min: A few groans from the Arsenal fans as Hincapie fails to complete a simple pass up the line for Martinelli, allowing Fofana to come across and win possession back for Chelsea.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

20:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That Chelsea high line is there to be exploited. Gabriel's ball over the top is a good one and Martinelli has the pace to get there every time if the pass is decent enough. Appears to be Arsenal's best bet at the moment because they haven't looked like cutting Chelsea open.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

34 min: CHANCE! A long punt up the pitch from Gabriel picks out Martinelli but the Arsenal forward can’t get the ball under control and he his snuffed out by Gusto as he tried to turn back inside the box.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

33 min: Not much in terms of goalmouth action, just the Delap shot and Hincapie’s effort that was saved by Sanchez to get excited about so far.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

20:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

He's never the most involved in Arsenal's general play, but we've had half an hour of this match and Viktor Gyokeres has touched the ball once.

He's worked hard enough off the ball but that's not really what you want to be judging your striker on.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Chelsea get the chance to throw a punch after Delap wins a corner off Rice. Fernandez goes across to take but both deliveries are cleared before Chalobah slices an effort wide.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

20:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

I can't understand why Liam Delap is effectively playing as a right winger at the moment.

Why are Chelsea not getting their width on that flank from Gusto and keeping Delap central where he usually operates?

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:23 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

23 min: Joao Pedro is playing the lone striker role really well so far. Up against Saliba and Gabriel, but is giving as good as he can.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

21 min: Kepa goes long and picks out the run of Martinelli with a fine pass. However, the Brazilian can’t pick out a team-mate with a cut-back and Chelsea get bodies back to clear.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

20:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea leaving three men up from Arsenal corners, so Rice, Eze and Zubimendi have to stay back. Hincapie wins another corner as his header is deflected wide. The Blues initially bring everyone back for the second one... but then again three men trot up the pitch. Trying to disrupt the Arsenal set-piece plans.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

18 min: Madueke eventually takes the corner but Hincapie flicks his header over the bar. The ball did appear to take a touch off Fofana’s arm before going out for another which is cleared.

Eze and Madueke combine to tee up Hincapie who has a shot saved.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

16 min: Arsenal build down the left with Hincapie and Martinelli but opt against putting the ball into the box. However, they are able to win a corner on the opposite flank with Madueke.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:13 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

12 min: Needless push from Delap on Hincapie which releases the Chelsea pressure as Arsenal get a free-kick deep in their own half.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

20:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal have started the better team, as Matt says, but I feel they're giving Enzo Fernandez a bit too much room to play as he pleases in the middle of the park.

The warning for what the Argentine can do came late on against West Ham at the weekend when he scored Chelsea's dramatic late winner.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:11 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

11 min: Nice touch from Joao Pedro and he does well to hold off Gabriel before feeding Cucurella whose cross is charged down by Timber.

Some afters between the latter pair after the ball had gone too.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

7 min: First shot of the game is Chelsea’s as Delap fires wide of Kepa’s post. That all came about after a shaky touch inside his own box from Saliba, just gave the Chelsea striker a sight of goal.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

20:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal have settled pretty well early on. Just like at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea not looking entirely confident on the ball at the back. Home fans quickly getting on Sanchez's back whenever it is passed back to him.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

4 min: Chalobah fires a pass back to his goalkeeper and Sanchez has to back peddle before bringing the ball under control. That could have been catastrophic.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-2)

20:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

2 min: Trying to figure out how Chelsea have set up. What is for certain is that it is a back five.

Mikel Arteta reveals why Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard miss Chelsea showdown

19:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal are without both Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard for their Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta's side host the Blues in the second leg of their all-London last-four tie tonight, holding a 3-2 advantage from their victory at Stamford Bridge last month.

Looking to reach their first final since 2020, Arsenal must cope without star man Saka and their captain Odegaard.

Saka picked up a muscle injury in the warm-up ahead of the 4-0 win over Leeds on Saturday, as he was replaced by Noni Madueke in the starting lineup at the last minute.

Arteta confirmed at his pre-match press conference that the issue was not a serious one, but he is not in the squad to face Chelsea.

Some Chelsea fans think Liam Rosenior is taking a risk with his team selection.

Fan thoughts

19:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A start for Eberechi Eze has been meet with universal praise from Arsenal fans on social media.

Fan reaction

19:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The absence of Cole Palmer from the starting XI has left some Chelsea fans confused.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

19:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Eberechi Eze gets the nod over Kai Havertz in midfield, with Arsenal unsurprisingly reluctant to start the German for the third time in a week.

Martin Odegaard not in the squad - does not sound like a significant injury issue but you’d imagine he would have started here had he been fit after a bright cameo off the bench against Leeds.

Dom Smith at Emirates Stadium

18:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A little surprising to see Cole Palmer on the bench rather than starting this game, given a place in a cup final is at stake for Chelsea.

It is good to see Estevao back for the Blues. He is on the substitutes bench, too, but his involvement in this game was in doubt given he has been back in Brazil on compassionate leave.

Strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both start, which will be interesting to see. I wonder whether they could be leading the line together in a 3-5-2?

Estevao is on compassionate leave in Brazil and is a doubt to face Arsenal.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior insists he “won’t put any pressure” on the 18-year-old to be back in time for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Emirates Stadium.

Estevao missed Saturday’s 3-2 win over West Ham having flown home to tend to a personal matter.

His absence came after he started both of Chelsea’s previous two matches against Crystal Palace and Napoli, scoring the opening goal of the 3-1 win over the Eagles.

Arteta eyes Carabao Cup success

18:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta is eyeing Carabao Cup glory to kickstart a "cycle" of Arsenal success.

The Gunners host Chelsea in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday night, holding a 3-2 aggregate lead after victory at Stamford Bridge.

Should Arsenal progress through to the final at Wembley, they will face either Manchester City or Newcastle in their bid to win a first piece of silverware since 2020.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are the only Arsenal players still at the club now who featured in that FA Cup run and Arteta is therefore keen for this group to taste Carabao Cup success to fuel their push for more trophies.

Do away goals count in Arsenal vs Chelsea decider?

18:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea’s task tonight is simple; win or no Carabao Cup final appearance this season.

However, the Blues do not have to get the job done completely inside 90 minutes.

Here, Standard Sport takes a look at how the rules work for the Carabao Cup semi-final.

(AFP via Getty Images)

Predicted Chelsea XI

18:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Liam Rosenior is expected to name a strong team against Arsenal, having started key players such as Marc Cucurella, Joao Pedro and captain Reece James on the bench against West Ham.

The game is expected to come too soon for injured Tosin Adarabioyo, but he was back in training on Friday doing light ball work and running.

Filip Jorgensen missed the West Ham match through a minor injury and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the squad for the Arsenal game.

Chelsea predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; Joao Pedro.

(ES Composite)

Predicted Arsenal XI

18:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal are likely to be cautious with Bukayo Saka's fitness and Noni Madueke is a strong option to keep his place, having looked sharp with a goal and assist against Leeds.

Riccardo Calafiori could come into the side at left-back, having been brought off the bench in that match.

Martin Odegaard did not start at Elland Road either but impressed in his cameo and there is every chance the Arsenal captain is restored to the starting line-up here.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Kepa; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice, Odegaard; Madueke, Jesus, Martinelli.

Chelsea set for another big summer transfer window after quiet January

18:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It ended up a relatively quiet Deadline Day for Chelsea - and that means significant business will now wait to be done in the summer, writes Dom Smith.

Chelsea’s activity on the final day of the winter transfer window featured one incoming, with Senegal centre-back Mamadou Sarr recalled early from his loan at sister club Strasbourg.

The rest of the movement was outgoings, with Aaron Anselmino loaned to Strasbourg and Tyrique George to Everton for the remainder of the season. Everton have an option to buy George in the summer.

Elsewhere, David Datro Fofana joined Strasbourg on loan, while young Ato Ampah signed for Stoke City for around £3million. The exiled centre-back Axel Disasi joined West Ham on loan and Raheem Sterling left by mutual consent after reaching an agreement to end his contract early.

It leaves Chelsea with plenty to do in the summer, though they sit fifth in the Premier League and are still fighting on all fronts in the cup competitions, including the Champions League, so clearly Liam Rosenior already presides over a capable squad.

Arsenal Deadline Day: Sandro Tonali, Leon Goretzka and agent talks

18:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The expectation in the days leading up to the end of the January window was that Arsenal would not be pushing to do any business, writes Matt Verri.

Arsenal's work had been done in the summer and, even with Ethan Nwaneri joining Marseille on loan, it was felt that the squad was in good shape.

That calculation was questioned when news broke on Sunday night that Mikel Merino required surgery on a foot injury. The Spaniard is in a race just to return before the end of the season.

It was understood at that point that Arsenal could be tempted by a loan signing on Deadline Day, but only one they felt was of the necessarily quality to immediately improve the team.

17:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
