Arsenal transfer round-up: Mikel Arteta targets two forwards after Mykhaylo Mudryk blow

Arsenal moved eight points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table by winning 2-0 at bitter rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

But will the Gunners still be on top come May? If Mikel Arteta's side are to win a first Premier League title in 19 years, they will have to do so without No.1 transfer target Mykhaylo Mudryk after he completed an £89million move to Chelsea.

Arsenal are still expected to sign a forward in January, despite missing out on Mudryk. But who are they after now? Here are the latest transfer rumours from the Emirates.

Mudryk alternatives identified

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, according to The Independent.

Arsenal are looking elsewhere following Mudryk's switch to Chelsea. It's believed the 22-year-old picked the Blues over the Gunners because he was offered an eight-and-a-half-year deal worth more than £100,000-a-week - with Arsenal offering around half of that.

It's unclear whether Trossard's agent or Brighton have offered the player to Arsenal. The 28-year-old has handed in a transfer request after falling out with manager Roberto De Zerbi. He was left out of the squad for the 3-0 win against Liverpool on Saturday.

Despite the row, Trossard is enjoying a brilliant season. He's scored seven goals and provided three assists in 16 Premier League appearances to put himself in the shop window. He has just 18 months left on his existing deal and Brighton may choose to cash in.

Another potential target is Raphinha, who has struggled to make an impact since his move from Leeds to Barcelona last summer. It's believed the LaLiga side will listen to offers for the Brazil international, 26, as they look to balance the books.

Arteta explains Mudryk miss

Arteta has admitted Arsenal need to have "discipline and be consistent" in their transfer business after missing out on Mudryk.

As well as offering the Ukraine international a smaller salary, the Gunners also failed to meet Shakhtar Donetsk's £89m asking price. Some fans are frustrated at Arsenal's unwillingness to splash out, but Arteta appreciates why they didn't break the bank.

The Gunners boss told Sky Sports after their win against Tottenham: "I am very proud to have the players we have. We always want to try and improve the squad. The club are the first to try and improve the players we have. We have to have some discipline and be consistent in the targets we have. We can make the players better, let's focus on that."

On whether Arsenal need reinforcements, Arteta added: "We had some injuries, long-term injuries and it's not helpful but we can focus on tomorrow. Train better, train better and review the game. We will try to improve the team. There are always a few parties involved. The club are willing and they have my support and I have their support."

Arsenal after Spanish youngster

The Gunners are interested in signing Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda, according to The Telegraph.

It's claimed several top European clubs - including Newcastle - are after the 18-year-old's signature. Valladolid are expecting to receive bids for Fresneda this month, although Arsenal are not planning on submitting an offer for the teenager until the summer.

Arsenal have signed a number of young players during the previous three transfer windows and are sticking by that strategy in January. Fresneda is enjoying a breakthrough campaign and has made 10 appearances for Valladolid in all competitions this season.

It's believed the Spanish giants want between £10m and £15m for Fresneda.

"Although I want him to stay here, I understand the club and I am aligned with it in everything it does regarding the players," said Valladolid coach Pacheta. "It is good for the player that he can continue playing, but I am sure he will do so wherever he goes."
