Arsenal transfer round-up: Aaron Hickey deal edges closer with club ‘set for talks’ over £17million switch

Arsenal have serious intention of continuing to build their squad during the upcoming summer transfer market.

Mikel Arteta’s plans may hang on their fate in the fight for fourth place but, either way, the Gunners hierarchy have every intention of putting their money where their mouth is.

Attackers are often discussed as the central focus for the club yet there are a number of positions which require attention, particularly if their Champions League bid is successful.

Here is the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours...

Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport claim Arsenal could hold talks to sign Scottish left-back Aaron Hickey from Bologna in the coming days.

The Serie A side are described as open to the deal with the hope of banking £17million for the teenager, who joined for less than a tenth of that from Hearts just under two years ago.

The Gunners have suffered with injury problems for regular full-back Kieran Tierney in recent months while Nuno Tavares has failed to impress.

Bologna sporting director Riccardo Bigon is said to be happy to set up talks with Arsenal although Napoli are also keen in Hickey’s services.

However, the England star’s wage demands topping £300,000-a-week represent a significant hurdle to any deal.

Sterling has publicly stated that he is happy to resolve his future at the end of the season, while he also previously expressed a desire to play abroad.

William Saliba

Arsenal defender Saliba is yet to break out at the Emirates but continues to star on loan at Marseille.

The Mirror report on AC Milan taking a serious interest in the defender ahead of Alessio Romagnoli’s possible free-transfer exit in the summer and with the club having enjoyed success in signing Fikayo Tomori from the Premier League last summer.

Youri Tielemans

Arsenal’s hopes of winning the race for £30m Leicester playmaker Tielemans hinge on their qualification for the Champions League, writes Standard Sport’s Simon Collings...

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on Tielemans over the past year.

Tammy Abraham

Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in Roma striker Abraham, who Jose Mourinho has stated is free to leave if he is ready to turn his back on Roma.

The coach told Sky Sports: “I think in this moment, if he wants to go back to England - I don't think he wants to no - but if he wants to go back to England he just needs to click his fingers and I'm so happy for him.”
