Arsenal transfer news: Sassuolo president admits ‘some contact’ over reported target Gianluca Scamacca

Sassuolo chairman Giovanni Carnevali admits “interest is now growing” in striker Gianluca Scamacca.

The 23-year-old scored 16 goals in 38 club appearances during the 2021/22 season, earning a call-up to the Italian national side after they won Euro 2020.

Reports in Italy have linked Arsenal with a move, suggesting Mikel Arteta’s side had seen a bid of around £30m snubbed.

Scamacca came through Roma’s academy before moving to PSV Eindhoven as a youngster and making his breakthrough with Jong PSV.

In 2017, he joined Sassuolo and has since made 41 senior appearances after loan spells at Ascoli and Genoa.

Arsenal are chasing a new striker after the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this year, with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus having emerged as their top target.

Tottenham are also keen on the Brazilian and reports in Spain have touted both Real and Atletico Madrid with an interest following City’s signing of Erling Haaland.

Carnevali admitted there had been talks with “some contacts with some clubs” but stressed there was “nothing concrete” over a potential transfer.

“There’s nothing concrete yet for Scamacca, just some contacts with some clubs,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Of course, after playing with the National team the interest is now growing.”
