Arsenal transfer chiefs 'annoyed' after what Serie A club have done in recent negotiations

Arsenal have been left extremely frustrated with Fiorentina's latest offer for Lucas Torreira if recent reports are to be believed.

Torreira joined the Gunners for a reported £24million back in the summer of 2018, hitting the ground running as he picked up man-of-the-match awards during matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Bournemouth in his first few months under Unai Emery's tutelage. However, the Uruguayan international struggled for game time once Mikel Arteta replaced Emery in the managerial hot-seat in December 2019 before being sent on loan to La Liga side Atletico Madrid for the 2020/21 campaign.

The tough-tackling midfielder then spent the last term on loan with Serie A outfit Fiorentina, enjoying a productive season that saw him net five times for La Viola, an impressive return when you consider he is typically known for his defensive prowess. It was widely expected that the 26-year-old would join Vincenzo Italiano's side on a permanent basis this summer, with Arsenal said to include a €15million (£13million) buy option in the deal.

However, Fiorentina.it have now reported that the Gunners have been left 'greatly annoyed' by Fiorentina's latest offer of €7 million (£6million), less than half of what they wanted for the talented maestro. The report goes on to claim that the north Londoners have not even responded to the offer from Fiorentina, with relations between the two sides said to be tense following the failed transfer of Dusan Vlahovic earlier this year.

Torreira has made it no secret of his desire to return to the Artemio Franchi Stadium next season but has also claimed that if a move cannot be completed, his primary objective is to play regularly. “My idea is to stay at Fiorentina, but if [a move] doesn’t happen, I’ll search for a club where I can play regularly,” he told Sky Sports, via Football Italia.

"I am not thinking about anything at the moment, I want to rest a little because it was a busy season. I’ll meet my agent at the right time and we’ll make the best decision.”
