Arsenal training footage reveals promotion, absent players for Everton and forgotten signing

Arsenal have released their training footage ahead of Wednesday night's Premier League clash against Everton.

The Gunners, who slumped to a 1-0 defeat in the reverse meeting at Goodison Park less than a month ago as part of a four-game winless run across all competitions, are back on home comforts at the Emirates Stadium having beaten Aston Villa and Leicester City on the road in successive away fixtures.

With the Toffees' visit to the capital being Arsenal's crucial game in hand, the incentive for Mikel Arteta's side to exert a measure of revenge on the Merseyside outfit is quite simple; victory will see them open up a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table.

Ahead of what promises to be a fascinating game under the lights in N5, as expected, the Gunners' manager and his coaching staff put the first-team squad - and a few youngsters - through their paces during a training session at London Colney on Tuesday afternoon as preparations were finalised.

Footage of the session has been released via a batch of images and it's no surprise that Mohamed Elneny was among the senior players not spotted as he is currently sidelined after undergoing knee surgery, whilst there was no sign of young goalkeeper Karl Hein or Thomas Partey.

With regard to the latter, it could simply be a case of him not being snapped on camera by the club's photographer as Arteta revealed the midfielder was due to take part in training: "He hasn't trained much," the Spaniard said in the pre-match press conference. "He only had one session and he will train again today. He was out for a few weeks and he needs to get the rhythm back."

Interestingly, Partey has since taken to Instagram to hint at his involvement against the Toffees by uploading a graphic to hype up the game in north London which may suggest he will, at least, be in the matchday squad again. However, it should be noted that the 29-year-old has also done this in the past for games that he's missed.

For the rest of the Arsenal squad - including Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Granit Xhaka, captain Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale - it was straight back to work following the win over Leicester and below is what else football.london spotted from the session.

Smith Rowe and Kiwior take part

Less than 24 hours after featuring for the Under-21s against Chelsea, Emile Smith Rowe and Jakub Kiwior took part in the session at London Colney in what is a double fitness boost for Arsenal at the start of a period that will see them play six times in 18 days across two competitions.

Whilst neither player is expected to start tonight, Arteta has already revealed his plans for the pair over the next three weeks: "Really good. Obviously, they needed some minutes and at the moment they haven’t had much exposure for different situations," he said. "It was great to see them on the field because we’re going to need them in the next couple of games."

Forgotten signing involved

George Lewis is very much a forgotten man at Arsenal, despite being registered in the club's Premier League squad this season. Given his age, this was somewhat of a formality otherwise he would have been ineligible from being named in a matchday squad.

A signing for the north London outfit in the summer of 2020 following a successful trial period, Lewis is yet to make a first-team breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium but was called up to train alongside the likes of Eddie Nketiah and William Saliba ahead of the Everton clash.

Prime promotion

From Rob Holding to Fabio Vieira, the Arsenal players appeared to be in a relaxed mood ahead of the Everton fixture. Meanwhile, goalkeepers Aaron Ramsdale and Matt Turner did some promoting for PRIME – the hydration drink founded by lifelong Gooner, KSI and fellow YouTube star, Logan Paul.
