Arsenal are facing a key few weeks ahead in the title race, with things still in their control despite a rocky week or so in their pursuit of glory. The Gunners have seen their eight-point gap over Manchester City cut to just four after going 2-0 up in consecutive games only to draw 2-2 with both Liverpool and West Ham.
With the Cityzens holding a game in hand too, that points total could soon be reduced to just one point, increasing the dramatic stakes of the head-to-head between the two sides next week. Mikel Arteta was keen not to dwell on the title race implications though, looking ahead to the next game.
"For the race of the title, I have no idea," the Spaniard said when asked about their chances. "Just as I had no idea seven weeks ago, or 12 weeks ago, or what will happen in three weeks. My biggest task is to go again and train really well and on Friday play in the same level that we played in the first 35 minutes against a team that is fighting for their lives, or against Liverpool, but do it for much longer periods."

While all focus will be on the Southampton clash next up, just on the horizon afterwards is the ominous looking clash with Man City. Should the side be in their imperious form with deadly striker Erling Haaland, then there could be plenty of concern for the Gunners.
However, Brentford defender Ben Mee has explained on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football how he and his side prepared for the Norway international earlier this season. He said: "We’re not as concerned with Haaland in these positions [outside of the 18-yard box] or receiving them in there, it’s when he’s sort of spinning.
"He might shoot from outside of the box, he’s more than capable of that, but it’s where is he more likely to run to score his goals? He’s looking to get in behind us straight away so we’re backing off and dealing with that situation.
"Also, the relationship between de Bruyne and Haaland himself, trying to stop Kevin from playing those passes, so closing him down and getting out to him. The ball comes into him on my side so it’s about getting out to him as quick as possible as the nearest man and avoiding him being as dangerous as he can be."
It was those runs in behind that caused Arsenal a few issues in the FA Cup tie earlier this season, with Rob Holding having to deal with Haaland that day. It didn't last long for the centre-back though as he was brought off at half-time on a yellow card, but he faces the task of dealing with the striker once again as William Saliba's injury leaves a decision to be made over risking him in a key tie.
