Arsenal to say goodbye to club favourite at Nottingham Forest amid concerns over replacement

There have been a lot of emotions surrounding Arsenal in the past week with the near end of the Gunners’ title hopes after the 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Brighton. But there is more to come and with just two games left of the league season the Gunners will be saying some goodbyes.

Plenty of players are due to leave at the end of the season but there will be one happening a bit earlier. The match with Nottingham Forest is Arsenal’s last away game of the season and with the home side playing in red, you can see where this is going, the Gunners are expected to wear their away kit.

The away kit for the 2022/23 season has been, by the vast majority of supporters, appreciated as one of the finest kits that Adidas and the club have ever produced. Arsenal is synonymous with nostalgia, recreating kits like the lightning bolts and bruised banana styles of the pre-2000s.

However, whilst the ‘AFC’ effect on the black on bronzy gold, yes that’s the technical term for the colour, strip is pretty retro, the whole design and the use of black as the primary colour is not necessarily very Arsenal but it has been adored by millions of fans. But its time with the club will be coming to an end with this game in the east midlands.

What makes this ending even sadder is the knowledge of what is potentially to come. Footy Headlines released images of the leaked away kit for the 2023/24 season and to put it bluntly, it is not very nice – in my opinion of course.

Sporting a yellow that a teacher’s highlighter would be proud of, the kit is splattered with something of a zebra effect. Black curved lines cover the shirt along with greyish dots between the spaces.

Yeah… not the best. The third kit is somewhat of a reprieve with a dark green torso and navy sleeves which is supposed to pay homage to the 1982/83 away kit.

So when watching Arsenal this weekend, take a moment to remember this will be the final time Arsenal play in the beautiful shirt which has covered a season of plenty of success stories. From the 4-2 win at Brighton to Fabio Vieira’s strike against Brentford and a frenetic but gutting test at Anfield, the shirt has got some memories but unlike a departing player, it can be worn forever and always into any supporter’s future, I know it will mine.
