Chelsea have been handed a wake up call in the race to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries amid interest from Arsenal. The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer but a move failed to materialise.
During negotiations regarding Romelu Lukaku's return to Inter Milan in the summer, the Blues asked the Italian giants to include Dumfries as part of a permanent player-plus-cash swap deal, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. However, the deal proved complicated with the striker joining Nerazzurri on loan instead.
The Netherlands international is said to still be a key target for the west Londoners ahead of the January transfer window as Graham Potter looks to sign an understudy to Reece James, who has suffered with a number of injuries recently. The 22-year-old defender suffered a knee injury in Chelsea's 2-0 win over AC Milan last month and has missed World Cup as a result.
