Arsenal team news vs Crystal Palace as Aaron Ramsdale starts but Kieran Tierney misses out

Aaron Ramsdale returns to the starting XI for Arsenal's Premier League trip to Crystal Palace. The England keeper had been labelled a "doubt" for the match by Mikel Arteta after missing the last match against Aston Villa prior to the international break due to a hip problem. However, the 23-year-old trained prior to the game and is straight back into the starting line up, with Bernd Leno returning to the bench.

Nuno Tavares also comes into the team for his first start since being substituted after barely half an hour during Arsenal's shock FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Portuguese under-21 international replaces Kieran Tierney who misses out with a knee problem.

Elsewhere in the side Emile Smith Rowe keeps his place among the starters despite Gabriel Martinelli's return to the squad after missing the win at Villa Park due to illness. Nicolas Pepe misses out though entirely after it was confirmed that he is suffering from illness.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is also absent once again as he continues to recover from his calf injury. The Japanese international was not involved with the first team group in training over the weekend, meaning that Cedric Soares keeps his place in the line up.

With a few senior players missing there are spots on the bench for a few of Kevin Betsy's under-23 players. Highly rated Mexican international Marcelo Flores makes the bench for the first time. He is joined by fellow promising youngster Mazeed Ogungbo who is a primarily a centre back, but has played left back and left wing back in the past.

Arsenal starting XI vs Crystal Palace - Ramsdale; Cedric, White, Gabriel, Tavares; Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Lacazette, Smith Rowe.
