Arsenal target Marcos Asensio looks to have finally made a decision on his long-term future at Real Madrid after being heavily linked with a move to north London. The Spanish winger sees his contract expire at the end of the 2022/23 season with extension talks taking place since the early months of the year.
A breakthrough in those talks now looks to have been made, with The Athletic reporting that it is expected Asensio will sign a new deal at Santiago Bernabeu. Their report notes that a source close to negotiations has said: “We will come to an agreement."
Manager Carlo Ancelotti is said to have played a major role convincing senior figures at Madrid to keep Asensio beyond this summer. The Gunners had been one of the many clubs keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, with talks not taking major steps forward until now.

Nonetheless, the summer transfer window will still be a significant one for Edu and Mikel Arteta. As football.london reported in January, Declan Rice is the priority target at Emirates Stadium, with interest in Youri Tielemans cooling.
In attack, Leandro Trossard was acquired to offer suitable competition in Arsenal's frontline after Edu missed out on Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea. Signing Trossard from Brighton continues to look a shrewd acquisition with each passing week as the Belgian has significantly assisted the north Londoners hopes of winning the league.
Losing out on Asensio is not entirely disastrous, especially given his niggling injury record, as Arsenal have a number of attackers already at their disposal.
Reiss Nelson signing an extension this summer would give the club adequate depth and if a decision can be reached in the summer for Folarin Balogun, the versatile forward is another player at Arteta's disposal.
