Arsenal star responds after Manchester United great Roy Keane's brutal criticism

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has explained how he lost his boot in the build-up to one of Brighton's goals at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners were beaten 3-0 by the Seagulls, a loss which effectively ended their Premier League title hopes. Arsenal trail Manchester City by four points and they have played a game more.

In the aftermath of the defeat to Brighton, Keane tore into Kiwior for prioritising putting his boot back on after it came off in the build-up to the goal. The former Manchester United midfielder was unimpressed with the Polish defender, who signed for Arsenal in January.

"You talk about putting your body on the line, last-ditch defending and stuff, you don’t stay down like that. Micah (Richards), his boot came off, his foot didn’t come off."

Kiwior then explained what happened, telling Viaplay: "I felt contact and lost my boot and didn't even see the goal. I hoped VAR would intervene and chalk off the goal, but unfortunately the ref saw it differently.

"After we conceded the second our heads dropped and we couldn't come back."

Gary Neville had his say on Kiwior's role in the Brighton goal while on commentary duty, saying: "Kiwior is injured but the fact that he was injured, I mean, he goes down holding his ankle and left Arsenal short in the middle of the box.

"He goes down. Can he not just... I'm scared of saying it and I'm sure the lads in the studio, Roy [Keane] and Patrick [Vieira], might be thinking it and have a bit more to say.

"If you're injured, you're injured. But as a centre half, surely you just have to stand up and let the attack finish?"
