Arsenal receive major injury boost for key defender ahead of Newcastle clash

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes is winning his battle to be fit for today's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

On Tuesday evening, Mikel Arteta's side snapped a four-game winless run by beating London rivals Chelsea 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium. But there was one negative as centre-back Gabriel was forced off after appearing to pick up some kind of knock in the second half.

football.london understands that it was an ankle injury that forced him off before receiving treatment in the dressing room. However, he conducted post-match media duties with international broadcasters as usual upon his exit from the stadium.

"We will have to see tomorrow how he is," said Arteta during his pre-match press conference on Friday. "He couldn't finish the game, so that's obviously a big sign.

"We will see how he is tomorrow." Now, Goal claim that the 25-year-old is set to feature at St. James' Park, a match the Gunners need to win if they are to keep their title hopes alive. They currently sit four points behind league leaders Manchester City with both teams having just four games remaining before the season ends.
