Arsenal receive £41.8m cash injection as Mikel Arteta and Edu plot for summer transfer window

It's somewhat of a cliche to say this summer transfer window is a huge one for Arsenal, but it's certainly the case as Mikel Arteta has a number of huge decisions to make.

Since returning to north London in December 2019 - initially, as head coach, before his official title was upgraded to manager a few months later - the Spaniard has overseen plenty of changes with regard to the playing staff as the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi and Hector Bellerin have all departed permanently.

That was part of Arteta's overall plan to install a new culture at the Emirates Stadium and it's safe to say that his mission to build a connection with supporters who had become disillusioned with how the club were operating is very much complete - and the Gunners boss has paid tribute after guiding the side to a second-placed Premier League finish.

"Throughout my time here, I saw our club returning. Returning to a feeling we have all missed, because there is something special behind us. This is togetherness," he said after the 5-0 win over Wolves last weekend. "So I want to thank you - all of you. Thank you to our players, who faced the season with passion and determination. When I watch our men and women training every single day, I can feel how much they want to deliver for this football club.

"Thank you to everyone working alongside them. All together, doing what they believe is right. You cannot imagine how much it helps the players, how much belief it gives them.

"And thank you to all our supporters, everywhere. Without you, it doesn’t make any sense what we do. You are our energy, you are living the game with us. You always have been in our attitude, in our self-belief. In the demands that push each other to seek excellence.

"So that’s what we all must do. Demand more from each other. Support each other. Be connected in every action, in every win, in every single ball. Now we focus on what’s in front, and if we keep moving forwards, we can achieve anything. Because we know what’s behind this club, behind this feeling."

What's immediately in front of Arsenal is the summer transfer window which officially opens later this month and a number of players have been linked with a move to N5 as Arteta aims to bolster his first-team squad ahead of the 2023/24 season which will mark the club's return to the Champions League.

Having pushed Manchester City all the way only to end the 2022/23 campaign as runners-up, the Gunners have managed to bring in a healthy sum of money. As is the case every season, each Premier League position is worth £2.2m, therefore Southampton collect £2.2m for finishing bottom and the champions earn around £44m.

So after finishing the term in second, Arsenal will receive £41.8m - that works out to be around £6m more following a fifth-paced finish last year. Given the need to improve the squad ahead of next season, supporters will be hoping that the aforementioned cash injection will be put towards the addition of new players amid links to Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo and plenty others.
